Creating ceramics
Ceramics, so what's so difficult about squishing clay about, I hear you say. In fact quite a lot judging by our assignment where we are asked to develop a wall plaque inspired by Cubism. There are so many technical elements to discover, calculate, mix and learn to create nice ceramics. In our assignment we will mix glazes and make critical decisions that will affect the appearance of our outcome. Here are some of the starting images of what will be a tile, from our tuitional workshop.
My intention is to find greens/beiges/oranges possibly, to apply to selected areas to give colour the finish with a lustre top glaze. The realisation of this may turn out differently. The clay used has a slightly gritty texture, but was pliant and easy to work and retained the marks well. Please check in again to see more progress...
